What We Do
The Planning Phase
At Thomson DB we manage building projects, end-to-end. That is, we are happy to take the initial call to discuss your ideas, we turn those ideas into a 3-dimensional drawing to ensure that all of your ideas are captured at the outset. We take particular care to keep the designs within your budget and paying close attention to the surrounding area to guarantee a successful project.
From here we employ an architect to create the planning drawings taking particular care to achieve the necessary permission during the first application.
How we do it
The Contractual Phase
Working with our partners we will obtain costs from the most appropriate sub-contractors for your project. This is sometimes made up of a single team with experience of your particular project or individual teams that will undertake work in their specialist area.
In consultation with the client the sub-contractor(s) will be selected with dates being agreed to commence the work and agree the completion.
How we manage it
Our project manager is the liaison between client, sub-contractor, planning and building control. The PM is responsible for ensuring that each party is satisfied that their requirements are being met. For the client, this is clear; high quality work being delivered on time. For the sub-contractor; the PM will ensure that everything runs smoothly thus avoiding any unnecessary delays. For Building control; the PM is usually present for inspections, ensuring that all work meets the required standard.
The PM will create a project plan to be shared with all parties and breaking the project down into phases, showing clear points at which finances will be required to keep the project moving.
U.K. Certified Contractors
Kitchen design and installation
To facilitate this kitchen design the old kitchen and dining room were combined as one by removing a stone wall. The extra space has allowed more light in and better flow throughout all of the downstairs area. The Howdens kitchen is of very high quality, the design is subtle.
Studio home Extension
Studio home extension
To enable the client to work from home this extension has created the perfect environment. Not only has it provided the working studio it has also provided more space downstairs and a beautiful landscaped patio area.
Studio Loft conversion
Studio loft conversion
This loft conversion, still a work-in-progress, will be used as a gym so the work has been extensive. Before the external works could be started all of the first floor ceilings were replaced to add extra strength and fire-proofing. It will add nearly 40 square metres to the property so will be a real transformation. More will be added in due course.
My cottage rental needed new tenants but was clearly in need of modernisation. Dave Thomson made a very good assessment and came up with some good ideas to make it desirable. The work started at an incredible rate and now we have a new roof, new bathroom, safe electrics and a modernised, but still full of character, desirable cottage.
Our lovely country home desperately needed more space but we found it difficult to visualise what was required. Dave created some wonderful 3D drawings, they were very realistic, and it became obvious. The whole process was very good, we just meet, discuss, watch, enjoy: wonderful.
